Lagos – The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has intensified efforts to secure community buy-in for the Omi Eko Project, with a high-level delegation paying a courtesy visit to the Oba of Ibasa as part of ongoing stakeholder engagement activities.

The delegation, which included the AFD Africa Director and representatives from the European Union (EU), met with the traditional ruler to discuss the ambitious initiative aimed at transforming water transport infrastructure in Lagos State.

Speaking during the visit, officials emphasized the critical role of community participation in ensuring the success of the Omi Eko Project, which seeks to enhance waterway connectivity and promote a sustainable blue economy across the state.

The Omi Eko initiative represents a strategic intervention in Lagos State’s water transportation sector, addressing infrastructure gaps while creating economic opportunities for waterfront communities.

Following the courtesy visit, the delegation embarked on an inspection tour of several proposed project sites across the Lagos Lagoon.
