MWUN Establishes New Dockworkers Unit at Apapa Bulk Terminal
Lagos – The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has inaugurated a new dockworkers unit at Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited (ABTL) in Apapa, Lagos, expanding its organizational reach within the nation’s maritime sector.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Union’s National Secretariat, brought together MWUN leadership and members of the Seafarers’ branch in a show of solidarity with the newly established ABTL unit.
The unit’s inaugural executive committee comprises:
– Comrade Adebayo Ayodele*– Chairman
– Comrade Chibuzor Uruakpa – Vice Chairman
– Comrade Ganiyu Olumuyiwa – Secretary
– Comrade Sunday John – Assistant Secretary
– Comrade Samuel O. Bassey – Treasurer
– Comrade Destiny Oliseh – Organizing Secretary
– Comrade Chigozie Nwabani – Assistant Organizing Secretary
– Comrade Chukwudi Obialor – Ex-officio member
During the ceremony, MWUN leadership counseled the newly elected executives on maintaining high professional standards both during work hours and after duty.
“The Union congratulated the officers while emphasizing that the image of the Union must not be brought into disrepute,” stated Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media for MWUN.
The union stressed that the conduct of the new executives would reflect the quality and reputation of both the unit and the broader organization.
The establishment of the ABTL unit represents MWUN’s continued efforts to strengthen worker representation across Nigeria’s strategic maritime terminals and facilities.
