Nigeria Customs Service Advances Recruitment: 286,697 Candidates Qualify for Computer-Based Test

By WaterwaysNews.ng

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has moved its ongoing recruitment exercise into high gear, announcing that 286,697 candidates have successfully passed the documentation screening phase and will proceed to a nationwide Computer-Based Test (CBT) scheduled for September 14-21, 2025.

The massive recruitment drive, launched on December 27, 2024, initially drew 573,523 applications for positions across Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres. The service has declared 3,927 available vacancies for which the shortlisted candidates will now compete.

National Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Maiwada announced Wednesday that the CBT will be conducted entirely online, allowing candidates to participate from any location with stable internet connectivity. This digital approach represents a significant departure from traditional physical examination centers.

However, the service has imposed strict technical requirements. Candidates must use laptop or desktop computers equipped with webcams and full-screen displays, as the testing platform is not compatible with mobile phones.

The CBT platform incorporates facial recognition technology requiring candidates to log in with clear facial visibility. Officials strongly advise applicants to maintain a professional appearance to avoid authentication difficulties.

The system’s sensitivity extends to candidate behavior during testing. Excessive movement, background noise, or attempts to access other applications will trigger automatic logout or disqualification for suspected malpractice.

A mandatory pre-test session, scheduled two days before the main examination, will familiarize candidates with the testing platform. Shortlisted applicants will receive separate links for both the practice session and the actual CBT.

Superintendent cadre (Level 8) candidates face an additional CBT phase beyond the initial test, while Inspectorate and Customs Assistant applicants will complete the process with the primary examination.

Maiwada emphasized the recruitment’s merit-based nature while warning against fraudulent schemes. The service neither charges fees for recruitment nor conducts any aspect of the exercise through social media platforms.

“All official updates will be communicated exclusively through verified NCS channels,” Maiwada stated, urging applicants to remain vigilant against imposters.

The recruitment initiative aims to strengthen the service’s operational capacity and improve delivery of its statutory responsibilities. Successful CBT candidates will be notified of subsequent phases through official channels.
