Delegates of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 47, 2025 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, have undertaken a strategic study tour of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) as part of their ongoing research and engagement on national development.
The delegation, made up of senior officers drawn from the public service, Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, academia, and the private sector, visited LASWA to gain insights into the Authority’s operational framework and its role in harnessing the blue economy.
Themed “Blue Economy and Sustainable Development: Issues, Challenges & Opportunities”, the study tour provided participants with a first-hand look at LASWA’s innovations and initiatives aimed at enhancing waterway transportation and governance in Lagos.
According to NIPSS, the visit was aimed at deepening the participants’ understanding of how the blue economy can be effectively harnessed to promote sustainable development. It also served as a platform for dialogue on current challenges, potential policy reforms, and strategic interventions needed to maximize the economic potential of inland waterways in Lagos State and beyond.
