NIWA MD Calls for Blue Economy Adoption to Drive Sustainable Growth
The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, has emphasized the critical role of the Blue Economy in driving economic growth and ensuring food security in Nigeria.
Speaking at a policy dialogue organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Abuja, Oyebamiji, represented by Engr. Mohammed Dangana, highlighted the vast opportunities within the Blue Economy, including fishing, tourism, renewable energy, and maritime transport.
“The Blue Economy is a cornerstone of our future, offering undeniable pathways for sustainable growth. Effective policy frameworks are essential in unlocking its full potential,” he stated.
The event, themed “Policy Dialogue on the Imperative of Harnessing the Blue Economy’s Potential for Economic Diversification and Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” brought together key industry stakeholders. NILDS Director-General, Prof. Abubakar Suleiman, underscored the economic benefits of shipping, maritime trade, and offshore activities while urging stakeholders to prioritize maritime safety.
Also in attendance was Dr. Bashir Jamoh, former Director-General of NIMASA, along with other notable figures in the maritime sector.
