NIWA MD Commends Management as New Board Chairman Visits Abuja Liaison Office
The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, has commended his management team for their dedication to the development of the inland waterways transportation sub-sector.
Oyebamiji gave the commendation during a familiarization visit by the newly appointed Chairman of NIWA’s Board, Hon. Musa Sarkin-Adar, at the Authority’s liaison office in Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, the NIWA boss acknowledged the contributions of his team, noting that their experience and commitment have been instrumental in advancing the agency’s mandate. He stated that he could not take credit alone for the progress recorded in the sector.
In his response, Hon. Sarkin-Adar expressed appreciation for the warm reception and urged the Authority to enhance its efforts in expanding water transportation across more states. He emphasized the importance of private sector participation in developing the sector, noting that the government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility.
The board chairman also called for the phasing out of wooden boats to reduce accidents on the waterways. He urged the NIWA management team to work diligently to establish a lasting legacy in the sector.
The visit was attended by all members of NIWA’s management team.
