RSIEC Chairman Commends MWUN for Seamless Electoral Material Delivery

Rivers State’s electoral commission has praised the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria for the efficient distribution of voting materials to riverine communities during the local government elections.

The Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Dr. Michael Odey, has lauded the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) for the timely and efficient delivery of electoral materials to all twelve littoral locations across the state.

Speaking after the successful distribution exercise, Dr. Odey highlighted a significant improvement in the logistics approach for reaching riverine communities. “This time around, there was a paradigm shift in the distribution of electoral materials to all the riverine areas of the state,” he said.

The RSIEC had entered into a strategic partnership with MWUN leadership to ensure effective material distribution ahead of the Rivers State local government elections. The collaboration involved deploying 300 speedboats to transport voting materials to remote locations throughout the state.

Dr. Odey specifically praised the current MWUN leadership under Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, President-General of the Union, for supervising the seamless operation. “The MWUN leadership has supervised their seamen and boat operators to deliver the electoral materials on target,” he noted.

The RSIEC chairman expressed complete satisfaction with the union’s performance, emphasizing that all riverine areas received their materials without delays. “All the riverine areas have no cause to complain over late delivery of voting materials for the election,” Dr. Odey stated.

This successful partnership between RSIEC and MWUN demonstrates the critical role of maritime transportation in ensuring democratic participation across Rivers State’s challenging terrain, where waterways serve as the primary means of access to many communities.

The efficient delivery system has set a new standard for electoral logistics in the state’s riverine areas, ensuring that geographical barriers do not impede the democratic process.
