In alignment with the collaboration thrust of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, the Tin Can Island Port (TCIP) Command has intensified its partnership with the Nigerian Navy and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) to enhance security and trade facilitation at the seaport.

The Customs Area Controller of the TCIP Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, recently played host to the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Badagry, Capt. Omotayo Busuyi Oyeleye, at his office. Similarly, the TCIP Customs boss also visited the NAQS offices at Tin Can Island Port and the Ports & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) facility to strengthen inter-agency cooperation.

During his engagement with the Naval Captain, Comptroller Onyeka emphasized the importance of collaboration among security agencies in achieving a safe and prosperous nation. He noted that beyond its primary functions of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and curbing smuggling activities, the Tin Can Island Port Command is committed to forging a formidable alliance with other security agencies to combat criminal activities at the port.

Inter-agency synergy is crucial to ensuring the safety and security of our ports. The Tin Can Island Port Command is focused on reinforcing collaboration with relevant authorities to prevent the infiltration of illicit goods and deter criminal elements from exploiting the nation’s seaports,” Onyeka stated.

He further stressed that a unified front among security agencies would strengthen intelligence-sharing mechanisms, improve enforcement strategies, and enhance national security.

The visit to the NAQS offices also underscored the importance of regulatory oversight in agricultural trade and biosecurity. Onyeka highlighted the need for customs and quarantine services to work closely in ensuring that agricultural imports and exports meet health and safety standards while facilitating seamless trade operations.

The strengthened cooperation between the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigerian Navy, and the NAQS is expected to boost port security, enhance operational efficiency, and contribute significantly to the federal government’s economic and trade objectives.
