Tinubu Hails Dantsoho’s Election as IAPH Africa Vice President
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), following his election as Vice President for Africa at the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH).
Dr. Dantsoho’s appointment to the IAPH management team comes with a two-year tenure, marking another significant achievement for Nigeria’s maritime sector on the global stage.
The IAPH, which celebrates its 70th anniversary on October 7 in Kobe, Japan, serves as the authoritative voice for seaports across the globe, representing the interests of port authorities and maritime stakeholders worldwide.
In his congratulatory statement, President Tinubu praised the confidence demonstrated by IAPH members in selecting Dr. Dantsoho for this prestigious role. The President noted that this continues a proud tradition for Nigeria, referencing the 2017 election of Hadiza Bala Usman, Dantsoho’s predecessor at the NPA, to a similar position within the organization.
“This election reinforces Nigeria’s growing influence in the global maritime community,” President Tinubu stated, expressing confidence that Dr. Dantsoho’s new role will significantly advance Nigeria’s strategic objectives in the marine and blue economy sectors.
The President challenged Dr. Dantsoho to leverage this international platform to accelerate the repositioning of the NPA, emphasizing its critical role in supporting Nigeria’s ambitious target of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
This appointment positions Nigeria prominently within the international ports and harbours community, potentially opening new avenues for collaboration, investment, and knowledge transfer in the country’s maritime sector.
